Google has dabbled in the Home Theater and Home Automation arenas for quite a while - going all the way back to the Logitech Revue and Google TV in 2010, and there were a few devices before that failed experiment as well (review in Episode 452). Even with the success of the Chromecast, it still feels like Google is just toying with us, but that all may change soon. Some of the announcements out of this year’s Google I/O conference are pretty exciting, and very promising. Plus, they have something called Project Ara - how can we not talk about that?

Podcast #545: Vizio Co-Star with Google TV

The Vizio Co-Star may have the Logitech Revue to thank for the uphill battle it faces in convincing consumers that Google TV is the right choice for their living room. When we reviewed the Revue almost two years ago, there were some aspects of it we really liked. But it never quite caught on with the masses. Vizio is hoping that the Co-Star can change expectations; and at a price of only $99, it sure is a lot easier for many of us to at least check it out.

Going way back in the history of watching TV at home, we all used to have antennas so we could watch over the air broadcasts.  Eventually Cable TV service emerged and changed the way we would get our favorite shows at home.  Then came Satellite, then IPTV and we were in heaven.  Fast forward a few years and prices for TV service have constantly skyrocketed, leading us all to become frustrated at the lack of options.  But there may be a way out.
